Engel v. Vitale : Decision


The Supreme Court ruled 6-1 in striking down the prayer. They argued that the prayer was religious in nature and therefore unconstitutional. Even though the prayer was voluntary, the reciting of the prayer in class would put unwanted pressure on the students.
