An increase in sectional conflicts resulting from Missouri's admission to the Union.

   

Briefly list several underlying factors that contribute to the problem that you have identified (support these factors with evidence):

In the past there was a balance in the number of slave and free states which determined how many senators sat in Congress. The Compromise of 1790 was in part an agreement to accept the practice of slavery in the south in return for keeping the country united. The economy of the south was still reliant on slave labor, whereas the north was beginning to industrialize at a faster pace and did not have the economic or social need to continue slavery.
